We are happy to be able to provide Sunday School classes for ages two through adults as well as a nursery. Please consider joining in and learning God’s Word with us.
We use the well regarded curriculum produced by Great Commission Publications, a joint venture of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) and the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). This means your children will receive an excellent biblical education while at Calvary Church.
Children’s Open Exercises
Children’s Open Exercises is a time of learning, singing and clapping to the old and new children’s songs. On several occasions throughout the year the children sing to the congregation prior to the morning Worship.
Preschool Class
Pre-school class ranges from toddlers through Kindergarten. Biblical foundations of creation and touching on the shorter catechisms is a great place to start.
Beginning at two years of age, children are welcome and encouraged to begin attending Sunday School. In the preschool class, they explore the Bible from creation to the early church. Since preschoolers learn best by repetition, time is spent each week reviewing the stories.
Various activities are designed to reinforce the lesson. The children learn that God calls his people to trust and follow him. The resounding theme is that God always keeps his promises.
Primary Class
Primary class ranges from 1st through 3rd grades. Our Sunday School material is provided by the Great Commission Publications.
During the fall, the children learn from stories in the Old Testament, specifically in Genesis and how God has a plan for our lives and stories of the Old Testament kings and prophets.
The Winter series is about loving the promise of the Savior and responding to Him through our words and actions.
During the Spring, the children learn the importance of God’s Word and it’s place in our lives and the biblical men and women who served God faithfully.
The Summer consists of learning about trusting and obeying God and through memorizing the Ten Commandments.
In addition to our Bible stories, we memorize Bible verses, catechism questions and praying for one another and making attendance crafts.
Junior Class
Junior Class range from 4th, 5th and 6th grades with material provided by Great Commission Publications along with a time of crafts. In the Winter quarter the lessons focus on the birth of Jesus and God’s prophecies fulfilled through Him.
The teacher then moves on to Simeon and Ann’s profession that Jesus is God’s promised messiah and then the familiar story of Herod and those men with Joseph’s ultimate flight into Egypt with Mary and baby Jesus. They continue to learn about the Parables of Jesus looking for the truths that are as applicable to our lives today as the day they were spoken.
The teacher’s philosophy is to convey the familiar stories and what can be applied in our lives today. It is conveyed that there is nothing new under the sun that hasn’t been covered in the Bible. The lessons the children learn are as applicable today as the day it penned by the inspired writers of God’s holy Word.
